Let's liven things up

Fort Worth's Flickerstick is ready to unveil another live record, but this one's a little different. The result of its fan-invite recording session is Live From Atlanta, a 12-song, three-video collection hitting stores Tuesday.
Flickerstick is (from left) Tim Locke (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Fletcher Lea (bass), Brandin Lea (vocals, guitar), Rex Ewing (guitar, vocals) and Todd Harwell (drums). The album features six new songs, some old favorites and a new studio song, "Helicopter." The former VH1 Bands On The Run winner enjoyed independent success with previous albums Welcoming Home the Astronauts and Tarantula.
A new live album may seem strange, though, to fans who remember another concert recording not too long ago. Frontman Brandin Lea explains: "We did a live record four years ago, and the fans seemed to really enjoy it. Some of them liked it almost more than our studio records.
"For us, it was a good way to hear what we sound like live – because I've always thought we are a very intense, live band that is hard to capture in the studio. It's that way for many bands."
But why Atlanta of all places?
"Fortunately, through past relationships, we reached out to our friends at Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta. ... When [they] said it was cool to bring our friends in and have a 'recording party' to make this record, we were sold." Paul Salfen
LIVE LICKS
We asked the members of Flickerstick to name their favorite live albums:
BRANDIN LEA: "I really don't have many live albums to be honest, but I can swear there is one that I liked a lot – Pink Floyd's album, Live at Pompeii, would be it."
REX EWING: "Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Live at the El Mocambo. I don't know why – it sounds sweaty."
TIM LOCKE: "I would say Wilco's Kicking Television: Live In Chicago, because I think that's the only live record I have."
FLETCHER LEA: "Probably would be the Oasis live album, but I have no clue what the name of it is [Familiar To Millions]."
TODD HARWELL: "It's tied for me. Kiss, Alive II – that was when I first fell in love with music. And there's Rush, Exit ... Stage Left. That was when I woke up and knew it was all about drums for me."
