Shreveport offers Flickerstick a change of scenery
March 29, 2007
After touring for 10 years, Flickerstick is excited about their first gig in Shreveport.
The band gained national attention after winning VH1's "Bands on the Run" competition and will perform Tuesday at Flannagan's.
"Our friends, Bowling for Soup, kept telling us to play Flannagan's in Shreveport. We'll be heading east anyway, so we decided to check it out and see what the fuss is about," said Brandin Lea, vocalist and guitarist for the band.
"We perform in the same city so many times that performing somewhere new is always a good surprise."
The band spends nearly half of the year touring to venues in the United States and UK. Lea says the band chooses to tour so much to keep in touch with fans.
"We're on the road so much to help keep a strong fan base. Fans keep coming year after year and that keeps us going."
The Flannagan's performance falls on the release date of the band's latest album, "Live From Atlanta." For Lea, the live album captures the honesty of their music.
"We are kind of between studio records and were passing through Atlanta and had an offer to play at Tree Sound Studios and accepted the offer," Lea said.
"Our fan base enjoys live shows so we decided to wait on our studio record and go ahead and put this out."
Dallas-based Flickerstick is made up of Tim Locke, Fletcher Lea, Rex James Ewing, Todd Harwell and Brandon Lea. The band will perform with Holy Moly, another Dallas band.
