i was reading an article a couple of weeks ago in the USAtoday about major radio companies like Entercom, and Clear Channel being found guilty of payola. (yeah i know....SHOCKER) in the article it mentioned one of the things that the companies would have to do is set aside a certain amount of programming hours for indie labels. my question is can the band's radio guy capitilize on this? can he offer the flickerstick single as a way for the major radio companies to settle there probation as it were...lol, i know that's not what it's called. not sure if that's an option.

and here is the blurb from USAtoday :
FCC announces 'payola' settlement
The Federal Communications Commission on Friday announced an unprecedented settlement with four radio broadcast giants under investigation for accepting cash and gifts from record companies in exchange for airplay. Clear Channel, CBS Radio, Entercom and Citadel Broadcasting will pay a $12.5 million fine and agree that their 1,653 stations won't engage in "payola" practices. The broadcasters also agreed to provide 8,400 half-hour segments of free airtime for independent record labels and local artists in a separate deal.

They got off easy...$12.5 mil i s nothing (to them) and... Math Geek time: 1,653 stations providing 8,400 half hour sessions (252,000 mins) equates to under 2.4 minutes of airplay per day average. even worse...it specifically says "half hour sessions." Meaning those 1,653 stations are only required to have about 5 sessions a year each.... Or less than a tenth (161 stations) are required to have a session a week. SLAP ON THE WRIST AND POLITICAL "LOOK WHAT WE DID FOR THE SMALL GUY" DISTRACTION. That is all.
