www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PhOfJhJKZkIf you can resist the temptation to scream out "PEEKA!!" in the first 15 seconds of The Cranberries 'Linger' then I'm not worthy. The two songs are completely different of course, but I can totally see how the opening of this song might have inspired the opening to "Sorry, Wrong Trajectory". Just me? Maybe.

I just joined the board to comment on this similarity. It really is interesting. Both songs open outlining a GMaj7 chord. Since both songs end up being in D Major (or, arguably, b minor in Flickerstick's case), that GMaj7 is IV7 in the context of the song as a whole. The awesome thing is that "Sorry...Wrong Trajectory" SOUNDS like it starts in G Major--especially because of the C-naturals in the opening vocal line (the passing note in "COM-bat is a part...", for example). The greatest thing about this is the A-F#-D sliding guitar line. We first encounter it in the intro, thinking in the presumed key of G Major. However, when the sliding guitar line comes back before the second verse, we then understand the A-F#-D as being in the D Major/B minor region. Such an awesomely subtle juxtaposition introduced by the opening section of this song--the Cranberries song lacks such contrast! Let me know what you guys think.

We gotta ask Cory Kreig. He did the intro for Trajectory. And he loves his keyboard arpeggios and what not.
